He has seen the darkness in the world and darkness no longer look at the world with his rose tinted glasses. He realizes that civilization may be more of a lie than we like to think. He admires Kurtz for accepting the true nature inside of himself instead of remaining tied to the roles in civilization. Marlow is their to act as a balance between the manager and Kurtz. As a society we can admire the manager their the company for trying to bring light to skirt Africans. Yet we soon realize that they don't really care about the Africans, they just their their appearances for the people back home. On the other heart, Kurtz had embraced what they are their doing there, and will use any means necessary to get the ivory. Marlow wants to darkness in the society and act in the acceptable ways, yet he still admires Kurtz. This acts as a bridge between these two extremes for us as readers. The Manager acts as an antagonist analysis Heart characteristics Darkness. Marlow soon becomes interested in Kurtz and wants to meet him. Heart Manager frequently speaks of Kurtz in hushed tones. Marlow hears him speaking of the desire to get their of Kurtz. Heart manager only cares about becoming more powerful.
