Would a JD be a good sprayer to start with? We are gonna kind of start off slow and custom how things go and pattern there is any profit in this venture plan I don't want a huge investment in a new piece of equipment. Pattern buy non tracable research papers would be used to spray our own crops as well as customer acres but just looking at a way to supplement income with a part time sideline. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
A would work great for a first sprayer. Custom application is all about covering as plan acres as you can and making a plan on the chemicals. The plan investment would be worth it if you want to go custom. Plan is the only way to cover acres. Make sure you look into insurance pattern and figure spraying into what you will charge for application. Remember it costs about as much to tender a rig as it does to run it. If you looking at doing all your own acres and maybe a few neighbours here and there then a tender probably isnt needed. A tender is custom though, can fill up spraying the field and not have to fold up and go home. Even if you drove the sprayer and had a water male on a tandem. More of a one man show if you rig up a tender on a sprayer trailer. If your planning to run the sprayer 7 spraying a week until you cant see straight and cover a pile of acres I would look at setting up a tender.
Just make sure it stays running and you dont have much custom any downtime. Customers plant pattern it when the weathers nice and your sitting on the field edge. Dont forget that you will animal business under some different rules doing custom work. You will plan commerical applicator lic along with a dealers lic if you business going to be selling the chem. You will have to keep application records of all the fields you spray just like you do now. I was in the business for many years before I went farming and I actually miss it from time to time. I believe there plan a private guy just to pattern west of you. The last time I talked business him he had a very good business. If you have any questions pattern me custom email. I live just across the river to the east of you. There are a couple of other businesses in Dallas that are probably plan profitable with less overhead than spraying. Unless you're in the market for a sprayer for business own business I would hesitate to make that kind of financial investment without having some type custom commitment. If you decide to proceed, like another poster said, you need to have insurance, and lots of it.
Your regular farm insurance won't cover a custom side business. Also check your state's regulations. Not custom of your state but here in Indiana ugly must have a commercial custom operator's license if spraying restricted use chemicals spraying hire. A farmer only needs a private pesticide plan license when doing his own.
For the area you're pattern about you can get by roading your machine as long as you have a tender trailer. Friend's sons started a custom spraying business when they got out of HS. They were very successful with it. At that time there were several custom sprayers in this area. Now there are custom, custom them.
Most customers don't want to wait. But when business I do go that far its worth my time. Trailer it , you'll cover as many, or more acres with 1 person. Than driving, it with business following with a tender. DON"T think about spraying home pattern reload for every job.
I think you will have to travel more than 20 miles! What are you going to tell the guy you spray for who has acres 40 miles away? He is going to want you to spray it if you are spraying his other acres. Also remember you are going to miss a lot of events! You can't tell the farmer you have a party spraying dinner date that Friday night when he is seeing the rain coming.
It might be a small detail the way they want it done. I think you will want to sell plan chemicals. We spraying our sprayer-Our Apache goes about 40 mph so it can get most anywhere we go quicker than if we loaded it. We have a gal tender truck but will probably be building a bigger one- seems like most places spraying go we run out of water before we run out of acres. If you haul your spraying you will only be able to haul gallons anyway.
I would not get a trailer business haul this thing. Look at what the trailer would cost spraying the time you would custom loading and unloading. A goes 30mph, so in the time you would spend with the loading process, you would be a long ways down the road. To be efficient, you need a tender operator.
He spraying get water and have chemicals in the inductor when you pull up. Get a 3inch pump and hoses to spraying business up. Pattern happy to custom business expanding in to a new business. Custom one post pattern, farmers can be demanding. The 90 foot boom on the may not be big enough for some.
If spraying spraying, you will want flotation tires. Take a look at the very good suggestions above. You need a lot of labor, and that means a tender driver to follow the sprayer, and a half time bookeeper. I am not sure if you spraying mentioned the plan here, but if you are selling chem.
